my instructors in Jr. & High school warned me that a scale is not a drawing instrument--only for measuring. Then you grab a ruler or T-square (remember those things?) to make your lines. Actually, I remember, you draw a line, then mark measurements. I still have my personal drafting utensils and I use them now and then.
Being an OLD draftsman, the measuring devices are called scales. They are not rulers. As a tip, use only one scale device when measuring a project. This from an aircraft builder (real not model).
