I see some 1/72 airplane kits that run $45-50 or more, and 1/350 ships well over $100. Now again, these are often well engineered kits with photo etch parts, so there is real value for builders. But once the majority of us (many over 60 years old & with disposable income) move on to that Big Hobby Shop in the sky, many of the manufacturers are going to see a big drop in demand unless they can attract another generation of builders.
One possible solution for younger aspiring modelers is Atlantis Models. They are releasing repops of previous kits from the ‘50’s and ‘60’s. An expanding selection, decent prices, and easy for a beginner to assemble. A good start to honing skills before buying that $100 dollars worth of kit and supplies mentioned above.
