Re: Now that is interesting..
can you email it to me?
I have 2 files 1.72mg & 1.96mg of HMS Dorsetshire's Profile as fitted if you want a copy.
In looking at wartime photos of Dorsetshire, they do not appear to be that high. Weird indeed.
Jon, have a look at the first picture shown in the second link in David's post just below. This is a picture of crewman playing deck games on board Kent. The aftmost turret is quite high off the deck - maybe as much as 5 feet.
correction: sand off all the bottom of the turret bases - not just some of them.
Perhaps more accurately is 1/8" or so.
eye ball it everyone to your liking...but suffice it to say to make it accurate carefully sand off some of the bases but make sure it is not canted.
1/4" seems it may be a bit too much! Do you mean 1/4 millimeter?
After a bit of a hiatus from building, I'm building the Aoshima HMS Dorsetshire (the first one released) mostly out of the box just to get my modeling juices flowing.
One tip to anyone building the kit:
The turret bases (part E 6) (AKA error on the 3rd baseman in baseball parlance) is too tall and the turrets sit way too tall. Sanding approx. 1/4" off the bottom does the trick to let the turrts sit at a proper height (to my eye based on pictures). Otherwise the kit seems to go together fairly nicely - but lacks some detail it should have.
I, for one can hardly wait for the Flyhawk HMS Dorsetshire. Should be fantastic.
Just my .25 in building the Aoshima kit.
