Re: HMS Kent HA Directors 1941-42
I believe what you refer to as MkI HACS directly relates to the director turret. When you enter the ambiguous world of RDF it becomes confusing as reference to any Mk can relate to the full outfit, the particular set, the antenna array or a combination of those equipment.
The 285 gunnery handbook notes 4 separate mods to the 285M but also notes those minor mods to the MkI, M denotes the first major mod to the 285.
The addition of the gunnery RDF outfit in 41 to the HACS turrets shows 2 outside double yagi and 2 inner single yagi fitted within parabolic `pig though`reflectors, this aerial outfit was designated ASG but can also be designated as ATJ.
I have no images of sufficient resolution showing an upgrade to the aerial array in 42, but it is highly likely her directors were upgraded to a higher MK, which would also include an upgrade to the array. That aerial upgrade likely incorporated 3 double yagi housed in full sided parabolic reflectors as can be seen in many images of 285 upgrades on many ships.
The unfortunate issue with the majority of people is that they do not understand or misinterpret the meaning of MK within the subject of RDF.
As for 282 pompom directors which may have been fitted in 41, I can not see that equipment within 41 images but that does not mean they were not fitted at a later time and no images were taken to show the fitting.
I hope this helps.
