Misconceptions in general.
1}The all-time favorite "Hold me closer Tony Danza", My personal favorite "Eight Days a Week" As a child I was amazed the British found a way to squeeze an extra day out of the calendar.
I grew up with Airfix 1/600 models - Hood and Bismarck etc. I knew it was HMS Hood, but I had no idea what HMS stood for, and thought all ships were prefixed by HMS. I often referred to HMS Titanic, and even worse - HMS Bismarck!
I'll start off- When I was a kid and first read about the loss of the 'Hood,' a phrase used was that a shell from the Bismarck 'found a chink' in the Hood's armor. When I first read that, I thought they meant there was a actual crack in the ship's armor, and wondered why they simply didn't fix it.
