A squadron usually had 18 aircraft divided into two division, each divided into 3 sections of 3. Each section had their own colour code as follows. 1st section Insignia Red.
2nd section White.
3rd section Insignia Blue.
4th section Black.
5th section Green.
6th section Lemon Yellow (Not the
on wing tops)
These section colours were on the cowl and the chevron on top of the wing.

Top Half colour/bottom white.2,5,8,11,14,17.
Bottom half colour/Top White.3,6,9,12,15,18.
The leader of each section-1,4,7,10,13,16 had, behind the cockpit area, a 20 inch (approximately) vertical band in section colour.
The tail appendages had the carrier colour
painted on as follows.

Note:the top of the wing was orange yellow or otherwise known as chrome yellow ...Lemon yellow was not used except for section colour chevron.
