I built 3 models and painted them 3 ways:
*Ms1 using 5-D/5-L (floquil)
*Ms1 using Testors 1111 to simulate "Navy Blue"
*Blue crew claim of 5-S
2. Converting digital images to black & white, it gives a different tone than shooting it on film.
Digital photography in b&w mode is even different than scanning a b&w print using gray tones.
3. The Life Magazine slides of Arizona were taken on October, 1956, not the "late 40s or early 50s" Mike said. The photos were taken for the 15th anniversary story that the mag ran. In 15 years the tropical sun faded the exposed wreckage, unpainted and untended since the attack, to approximately the same tone as 5-N. Also, the scans online are redshifted somewhat, as the white stripes on the flag are slightly pink.
