Re: Sorry Bill!; that reply was for the original post
I assume you are talking about IPMS contests(?)
MMSI, AMPS and the NRG have different rules, less intensity.
First let me say that I'm cheap and I don't like working with P/E unless it's something like door. I like to add my detail the "old school" way by scratching it. Also, I get as many pictures of the actual ship or tank. Granted, it's probably not as accurate as some, but I know I've done my best to make myself happy with the build. That's all that really matters.
On contests, I've heard and never seen modelers who didn't win what they came after, either leave the entry on the table or deposit it in the garbage can on the way out. I think that's a bit obsessive.
NP. I figured that's who you were directing your response to. And there was nothing in your reply to elicit offense, in fact it was well reasoned and polite. Take care.
Sorry about that; my reply should have been to the original post instead of yours.
Your point, about building to make you happy, is spot on. My 8-year old self would love to find a Monogram SBD, flaws and all, so I can dive bomb stuff and make horrible carrier landings on fishing line arrestor gear.
