recieved 4 boat booms,a helicopter pad, andelectric lights for the 2 helicopter pad for day and night operations. A large crane was mounted on the starboard side near the bridge for lifting PBR river boats out of the water on the LST.Also the ship recieved new radar,navigational equipment and radio equipment. Below deck in the tank bay were machine and maintence shops for maintining the
PBR'S that were lowered below deck by the crane thru a hatch. The Garrett County was recommissioned in 1966 and used until 1971 . Then she was transferred to South Vietnamese Navy renamed the Can Tho and until 1975. When South Vietnam fell in 1975 a number of ships
left and went to the Phillipines . There the Can Tho became a part of the Flipino Navy renamed the Apayao. Her fate isn't clear.
