I was intrigued because my friend was in the process of "packing" the cockpits. The "detail" was imaginary. There were wires, pipes, and boxes in every open space. To me, the effect was phony. I asking him about "packing." He said IPMS judges expected "busy" cockpits, and punished cockpits which did not conform to their ideas.
i have not bought FINESCALE in a long time but their wingy things loved doing stuff like that. They loved airplanes having every panel open and filled with fake details.
I even saw a few carrier thingy with one wing folded and the other extended.
The only answer I could get for such weirdness was contest judges like it.
