I just google'd the cost of 80' civilian ships, and they range from 1.00 million USD and up used
. Back of the napkin average was between 3-5 million USD. I didn't do a detail analysis of the boats to see why the cost so much, but luxury items cost lost of money just like weapons and sensors do.
If you wanted to buy a fleet of 12 yachts, it would set you back between 36-60 million USD, and while you'd be able to host some mega parties you wouldn't be able to do anything militarily useful.
Next, compare the 89 million USD to the unit cost of a single MH-60R, which was 42.9 million USD in FY 2012.
So getting 12 boats at a unit cost of about 7 million USD seems pretty reasonable.
WOW 12 boats, 89 million usd!
thats 1,000,000 dollars per foot, is that really cost efficiency?
