Re: British Town Class Cruisers
Many thanks to you and other board members for their kind remarks on the book. As you rightly note, I received a lot of help from many contributors to this board (along with others) in bringing the project to completion and I owe them all an immense debt of gratitude.
I am sorry to disappoint but the next book will be on the Fiji class and their successors, including the Minotaurs (Ontario/Swiftsure) and Tigers. Although the 'Countys' are a worthy subject, I wanted to conclude the RN light cruiser story and a lot of my research on the 'Towns' has relevance to the following classes (e.g. the sketch designs were largely produced by the same design team). I have lined up the same team of illustrators for this new book and some work is already underway, although it will take another couple of years or so to finish the relevant research and submit the finished product to Seaforth. The fact that the main archives are currently closed is a minor hindrance but, inevitably, the main issue is fitting all the necessary work around the rest of my life.
I hope this information is of some interest and thanks again for the positive comments.
The book has just been delivered: my first impressions are that it is superb and thanks to the author and those to whom Conrad acknowledges, viz. members of this board (you know who you are)for bringing the project to fruition.
Maybe, just maybe, the 'Countys' will get the same treatment. Hint Conrad?
Perhaps one day, HMS Sheffield, she of the most battle honours, will be released as a 1/350 IMP model.
I recently purchased and received a copy of British Town Class Cruisers - Design, Development & performance - Southampton & Belfast Classes, by Conrad Waters and published by Seaforth. While I am not qualified or sufficiently knowledgeable to comment on the accuracy of this publication, I must say that I am very impressed with the quality and number of images and line drawings. I purchased it at a price of £22.53 including postage and strongly believe that this is excellent value for money.
There is a very well written appendix on camouflage and appearance with seven page of colour artwork, each with two images.
