Re: 1/350 Trumpeter Roma
I have built all three of 1/700 scale Trumpeter Littorios and each has the red/white striped forecastle deck and one the quarterdeck as well. My methodology is very different to that already posted as answers to your query.
Firstly I use White Ensign/Sovereign Hobbies Colourcoats enamel paint. I painted the subject area white and left it to harden for a few days. Having determined the points on the deck edge where the stripes met I very carefully engraved a line across the deck joining them. This was achieved by using a flexible steel rule and a No. 15 Swan Morton scalpel blade, but using the rear edge of the blade as a scriber, rather than the blade edge. I then painted the red colour. I brush paint, and provided that care is taken the paint will flood into, but not over the scribed line leaving a perfect red/white stripe.
Started work on 1/350 Trumpy Roma. What a Beautiful kit. What is the best way to mask the fore deck to paint the red and white stripes. seems with all the detail on the deck it would be hard to mask without bleed through. Is the light grey for the midships deck correct? Thanks for any help. Steve Turets
