i think it was a case of the ships being needed in service "a year ago" and anything that prevented that was not considered! and whilst wet DUKE ofYORK fought through the worst weaather at NORTH CAPE!
One of the main failings of the design of this class was deemed to be the lack of sheer forward, making them very wet ships. This was due to a staff requirement that A turret should be capable of fire ahead at zero elevation. Was consideration ever given to fitting an 'Atlantic' type bow? One would have thought it a relatively simple modification.
