The current, chaotic naming convention has long been a source of irritation to me; your recitation of what once was and what should never be is dead on; loathsome indeed. We are witnessing the decay and bankruptcy of the country where its symbols first fall into disrepute by virtue of hypocrisy.
Doris Miller would furnish a Burke Class vessel a fitting and proper name. No one is questioning--I'm happy to see--Miller's gallantry and so far as I know...(since I have yet to crack open this book):
...no one survived in the area where Miller was stationed to tell any tales. But I'm sure he would have conducted himself as he did on December 7th had fate granted the opportunity.
In any event, yet another example of poor naming practice.
