Re: CVN-81 to be named USS DORIS MILLER
Dorie has the Navy Cross which neither Ford nor Kennedy has. So, yes he deserves the honor
However, I do agree that carriers should be named for battles or famous USN ships, not people.
Let me see if I have this right. So far the Ford Class names honor two Presidents of the United States, the greatest ship ever in the United States Navy, and a mess steward.
Taking nothing away from Seaman Miller, and hoping that I could have summoned up the courage to do half of what he did at Pearl Harbor, his name on a carrier, is just a bit too much. A destroyer, yes. A frigate, by all means, but not a carrier.
I am wondering when the Navy will get its brain out of where its butt should be and christen a carrier after the greatest (and longest) naval campaign waged by American Arms - Guadalcanal?
According to USNI News, Ford Class Carrier to be named USS DORIS MILLER, Pearl Harbor Hero.
