Zimm in The Battle of the River Plate: a tactical analysis in Warship 2018 describes the problems of Harwood's tactics, which could have resulted in a disaster for the RN if Langsdorff would used the situation better (especially the failure of the light cruisers to get into effective range). Harwood's tactic did not work, he had luck that Langsdorff did as many mistakes, e.g. did not use for longer time all the 28 cm guns against Exeter, but instead constantly shifts the targets. It was mainly one of Exeter's hits which cause Langsdorff do abandon the cruise and scuttle the ship (the destruction of the raw fuel processing system) and for sure the result was a British victory - as I had written ("damage sufficiently..").
