I have reasons as to why I enjoy paper, now that I'm older now.
Between the price of the plastic or resin kit (always in 1:700 scale), the after market brass parts, paints, reference materials and so on.... I'd have spent usually around $200. furnishing all I'd need to make a decent replica. I can work in a larger scale, 1:200, and have everything I need for less than $100., usually. In paper, it is what it is, no need for paints, reference material- it's all there for you to get started. Scissors, Xacto knife, glue & toothpicks, some dowels and away you go. I am currently working on the Italian light cruiser Scipione Africano, and it's just amazing what you can accomplish working with paper/card stock.
If this reads like a confession, well, in some sense I guess it is. Has anyone here made the switch like I did ? And the best part ? When you tell people that the model is made of paper- to the uninitiated, IT BLOWS THEIR MINDS !! 😜
