My perspective (from a non-nuclear Surface Officer, Ret.)
Having worked with and against US and NATO diesel boats, the main argument IMHO is speed, range and endurance. US submarines need all three to deploy from the US to global trouble spots. Bases like Guam may be closer to the action, in the case of one threat, but diesels would be lagging if the fight shifted elsewhere. Such is the tyranny of distance.
The US submarines are sufficiently quiet to maintain a tactical edge.
UUVs also lack sufficient speed, range and endurance.
