Re: On The Longest Day movie...
I believe that was Battle of the Bulge. Eisenhower really, really hated that film.
I've read that when shown a special screening of The Longest Day for President Eisenhower, he was so disgusted by its inaccuracy that he got up and walked out of the film not long after it began.
The filmmakers had an opportunity to make a great movie about this historic battle in the tradition of great war films like THE LONGEST DAY, A BRIDGE TOO FAR, GETTYSBURG and TORA TORA, TORA. Instead they made one in the tradition of Michael Bayís PEARL HARBOR. The previous movie about MIDWAY, released in 1976, was so pathetic that no one wanted to touch the subject again for over thirty years. Itís likely most of us wonít still be alive when the subject is raised in film again.
I've just returned home from watching the film Midway, this being the first time I've visited a cinema since 1999. It might well be another 20 years after viewing this load of Hollywood Hogwash!
