Re: British Navy painted decks red in WW2
The color artwork in the old Profile Publication on HMS Cossack showed the foredeck ahead of the breakwater and, I believe, the fantail around the depth charge racks as a dull brownish red which I have always assumed was red lead. As the artwork shows the ship pre-war, this would probably not have been for recognition purposes. Some of the Profile artwork has been questioned, but I believe Cossack is considered to be one of the better ones.
