Re: WSJ on Midway: The Motion Picture
Lots of inaccuracies for us rivet counters. Some of the CGI was very accurate, like, 1.1” guns on the CVs, while others were grossly wrong. A lot of time wasted on things that were of little or no importance to the story. Since the Chinese financed much of the movie there was the obligatory segment with the Chinese helping Doolittle, time that could have been better spent on the battle. There was also too much Star Wars type flying, and absurdities like large mountains and deep canyons in the Marshall Islands, where, in reality, the tallest things are palm trees.
But it’s useful history for the great unwashed masses who think Hitler bombed Peal Harbor, and have no clue about the battle of Midway.
