Re: Drawings for the SS MORRO CASTLE ?
I have a few deck plans that are admittedly not of much use. They're located on the inside cover & 1st page on some of the books I own on MORRO CASTLE. I own 5 different books on the subject. I would think further line drawings would be archived in Washington, DC somewhere. Given, the pretext of building MORRO CASTLE & her sister, ORIENTE, was to have more ships built that would not only strengthen mail service to locations via shipboard routes as well as ships that could easily be converted to troop carriers in a time of war. The Ward Line (actually it's parent company- Atlantic, Gulf & West Indies or A,G&WI) was granted monies by the US government to be paid back with favorable finance rates. All the major players in the maritime shipping trade went and poor mouthed the government as to their being the one to be selected for the government project. The Ward Line was chosen, and building for the MORRO CASTLE commenced in 1929, just prior to the stock market crash.
So anyone know of any drawings for this ship? That would make getting to a model a lot easier.
I'd read about the disaster back in High School, I too always was interested in a model of her.
