Between Carl and Steve Larson (Model Monkey) we have two of the best makers of printed resin products. And hold on to your hats because Simon Percival (Micro Master) will within the next month or so also offer some fantastic (detail that is hard to believe) new products now that he has his own printer. Simon has been transitioning as he has moved from the UK to New Zealand. These providers to our hobby are in communication as they know most builders (INMHO) would rather have variety then have six different kits of the same ship, in the same era and in the same scale.
I have spent a lot of money purchasing many of Model Monkey and Micro Masters first generation (that means through Shapeways) and now find that these producers are offering far superior products. I should be upset but I am not because this change is best for our hobby. I would like to think that the money I spent has helped them decide to make the substantial investments in their own printers. So now they are not dependent on Shapsways (Shapeways has made a number of changes that are bad for designers) and offer them greater chances of being able to make their business financially viable. They are still not out of the woods financially but at least they have a chance.
