Anyone know how main boat booms on WW1 Brit Battleships were swung over the side?

The boom is mounted off a leg of a tripod mast. The "lifting" pulleys and lines are clear but how those large booms were swung out over the side is not. We see cranes on American dreadnoughts with machinery on a platform that both lifts and swings the boom. The brits had no such platform and the lifting winches seem to have been on the deck. Anyone know how the boom was swung?
