Re: Pre WW2 USN carrier letters on flight deck.
Langley never used letters to the best of my knowledge.
Wasp used WASP
Hornet used HNT in a blue/gray color as far as I can tell from black and white photos, and only for a very short time. So short in fact that I doubt if she ever put to sea with them on. There is a picture of the HNT from, I believe Life magazine.
The one you did miss that used letters, again for a very short time was Long Island that used LI
Got a question here . With the Langley kit coming out I wondered what letters of the ship's name were used on the flight deck. Can any one help me fill out the blanks.
Langley CV-1 - ?
Lexington CV-2 - LEX
Saragota CV-3 - SARA
Ranger CV-4 - RNGR
Yorktown CV-5 - YKTN
Enterprise CV-6 - EN
Wasp CV-7 ?
Hornet CV-8 ?
