Re: Timing belt tensioner bearing 1980 1.6L ?
SO got new grease poked in. Feels like a new bearing. Got NOS water pump put on (no leaks yay!) and started it up. Was greeted with an odd like power steering pump whine(non ps car...) or dying alternator whine. No idea what thats about. Was loud but quieted down. No whine at idle but 1-2K rpm its there. I have not driven it yet, just let it run high idle till it burped the tstat open so i could top off the radiator. I may remove the fan belt to eliminate if its the NOS water pump or the belt itself - i bought one of those cogged belts to see how it works so i may slap on the old old smooth belt to see if thats making weird noises. I havent rechecked timing just to be sure but took all the precautions making sure it didnt move and sounded alright running. When i put the timing belt back on and tensioned it my haynes manual said adjust tension till you cannot twist the long side of the belt past 90* then to take to your GM dealer for proper tensioning... Is that a load of crap?
