I’ve been keeping an eye out for another Chevette and I have found one. It’s a basic 2-door with a 4-speed. It’s not in bad shape, but could use a good scrub/tuneup and eventually some paint/ interior. The “plan” I have for this one is mostly DD duty while improving the suspension for fun driving. The last few years I have really gotten into auto-crossing and I would like something that could be a fun backup car. While a stockish Chevette would be severely underpowered, I think with some tweaks it could be a fun car to huck through the cones.
Grip is one of the most important things in auto-crossing and one of the easiest ways to find it is wider tires. So that brings me to the big question. Has anybody seen or heard of anyone getting a wide tire on the front of a Chevette? I’m talking something in the neighborhood of 245’s or wider. Preferably with most of that under the stock bodyline. I think at a minimum the shock location would need to be moved to the spring area via a coil over conversion, possibly the brake lines would need to be moved as well.
Additionally is there anybody on here who has auto-crossed or road-raced a Chevette that would have any thoughts on the suspension they can share? Alex, are you still out there?
Thanks, Ra
