Check the adjustment on the cable at the firewall. there is a notched plastic adjuster with an "E" clip that slips into the notch.
Pull it out until it is tight and re-fit the eclip. Cables don't usually stretch they do however fray inside which makes them stiff to push. there is also an adjustment pivot on the bell housing that may have backed out. check that as well.
