i had this with a bad EGR valve, when i got the car someone jammed a BB into the vac line to it. I decided to see why, started fine and seemed to rev OK but anything more then 1/8 throttle it would stumble and die.
Put BB back in the line and all is normal once again.
Could try taking the vac line off the egr and plugging it with a golf tee or something and see what that does.
