Re: keeping safe?
Oh my zog! Hopefully, the pipes will thaw without any of them being burst. This morning, it is already 28* out and after suffering the prolonged double shot of artic temps, it feels like a dang heat wave. I don't think it is so much you have lost your tolerance as it is that the temps were beyond frigid!!! Come Wednesday - didn't matter how warm I dressed, the cold and the wind just went thru everything. Seemed like the longer the frigid temps lasted the less tolerant I was becoming! The neighbor who plows my drive, who's lived here his whole life, says he's never seen temps like this, especially lasting as long as they have. I think even my pony was getting mighty tired of it. The chickens have not been out of their hen houses since mid-Jan. A lot of people I know, build small hen houses with large outside pens. But when the birds need to be confined in their houses, they need that recommended allot square feet per bird. You never know when you might need to keep them completely sheltered for a long period of time. Anywho - hope your water situation proves to be not a total bummer when the pipes thaw.
