Something I found to be a major pain is that everything that goes/went into the storage/pantry is/was "dated" - like they're suppose to be so you "hopefully" use up the old before the new. I'd put the month and year - like 1-13. However, if you have a month where you're doing a lot of stocking, then depending on the store(s) yadaya, sometimes you have different expiration dates on the same goods bought the same month. So now you find yourself having to check not only the date the good went into storage, but the expiration dates too. A reeeeeeeeeeeal MAJOR pain! A year ago, I started putting only the expiration date on the packaging rather than the bought date. So instead of putting like 1-13, I will put on the package say 3-15. Absolutely no questioning now which to grab as the the "oldest", or when rotating the stock.
