: but I'm pretty selective in that a lot of
: games, just based on genres, are ones that I
: don't care for.
Maybe that's me, too? I'm not sure if it was part of E3 or not, but one trailer just looked like a generic first-person game where you hold a crossbow and large bears randomly start attacking. You can't run off the nearby steep cliff (a convenient place to put it!), so a train happens to be coming along a set of tracks, and you grab a stranger's hand to get away. It's like, huh?
: XBox One X: Backwards compatible with games
: and controllers = HUGE plus! It's like
: they're doing what Nintendo USED to be so
: great about before the Switch... making the
: console appealing because you can hook it up
: and simply replace the previous console
: without losing the ability to play your
: favorite games. The one question not
: initially answered, though, is downloaded
: games. Will we be able to redownload XB1
: and 360 backwards compatible games to the
: XB1X or not?
I think I forget which games were on the first XBox! "Halo" sounds like an obvious one.
You know what's strange about Nintendo's backwards compatibility? I haven't even used it on Wii U yet. Then, I think Wii U loses the ability to play GameCube discs (I still have GameCube in my closet, but I haven't looked around for the AC adapter or the video cable)? They would be on Virtual Console if anything, but I'm not sure how many of those games have ever released to the VC. It wouldn't really make sense on Wii (with the ability to play the discs).
I think when I beat the GameCube version of "Twilight Princess," it was actually on my Wii (I had started on the GameCube years earlier).
: Minecraft "Super Duper Graphics
: Pack": This was shown/announced as XBox
: One X but I wonder if it's a graphics pack
: for any version? Either way, it basically
: just makes the visuals in the game look more
: realistic with cool shadow effects from the
: sun and stuff.
That was weird for me, since I thought the main point of "Minecraft" is to look pixelated? Now, it would be in 4K with the pixel art style?
*******
I've watched Nintendo's digital event (after seeing some blog articles that described things even beyond what they showed). It's kind of cool that Kirby and Yoshi have new games? Then again, I didn't play the Kirby for Wii U (besides maybe a demo) and the Yoshi one was a weird art style. I do remember really liking maybe "Yoshi's Island," if that's the one where you have to get baby Mario to the goal. "Yoshi's Cookie" is a neat puzzle game from the much earlier systems.
Metroid sounds neat with the amiibo. Then I think I read that they're only compatible with upcoming Metroid games, such as one for 3DS (I haven't bought a 2/3DS), and it looks like they'll be a two-pack. Maybe they were afraid of another Bokoblin situation? Those were a weird choice to release them as a single character. The thing is, I already got the original Samus from "Smash 4," so the new one is the same art style/paint, but in a different pose?
I guess that's basically to say that I'm starting to consider buying amiibo for looks instead of functionality? I'm not sure if I did that so far with my collection (Silver and Gold Mario???). Palutena, Rosalina, and Ryu seem to be characters that are mostly in Smash. I guess I've seen Rosalina in "Mario Kart Wii" (not amiibo compatible) and Ryu would be in the "Street Fighter 2" remake (not an amiibo game?). How many Links does one person need? I wanted to "delay gratification" for the "Ocarina of Time" release, and then he disappeared. I thought about "Breath of the Wild" (archer version) for him and then the new Zelda, but they sold out (coming back pretty soon, according to safety certificates). I just don't know where amiibo goes from here. I still have to scan my FIRST one of those things. I finally saw information about them in "Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker" the other day. "Smash" is going to be my next new game to play in July.
The weird Mario + Rabbids game doesn't look that bad to me. Lots of people in video game media were just saying they don't like the Rabbids? The one who tries to be Peach is HIDEOUS, but I didn't mind the rest.
It's hard to resonate with "Fire Emblem Heroes" (besides Marth?), and then the original "Xenoblade Chronicles" looked interesting enough to play on Wii U (now a digital download?). I have no idea what the story was in "Xenoblade Chronicles X," and now "Xenoblade Chronicles 2" looks like all different characters, a sword that's really a woman, and corny voice acting?
I don't know what a dinosaur has to do with "Super Mario Odyssey." I guess they're trying to "reimagine" the 3D Mario games? It's been in the "Mushroom Kingdom" for a pretty long time. Then again, I didn't play "Super Mario Sunshine," which looks like a different world.
I'm not really sure about Sony, Bethesda, Ubisoft ... ? I guess I already mentioned how it's confusing to see Microsoft advertise XBox One S and XBox One X? With Windows, they just seem to add "Professional," "Pro," "Ultimate," or another word for the premium version. Would it look bad to have "XBox Pro" after Sony already released a "Pro" upgrade?
Some of the other stuff I read was about VR (it's both on XBox One X AND they kept denying it, depending on who you asked). Then, probably from the Nintendo side, people already want "Smash Bros. Deluxe" or a dedicated Switch version. I didn't even get to play the current one yet, and it won't be three years old until November? The Wii version was kind of average for me somehow. The GameCube seemed to really get it right. People even talk about "Skyrim" as on "old" game because it released in 2011 or something like that! I guess there technically wasn't a Windows 8 in 2011 (never mind 8.1 or 10), but is six years THAT long ago?!!
Better try to get back to the recorded "Treehouse" announcements from Nintendo?
