I think I have 30 treasure maps/charts now, but does that number include triforce charts? I do notice a number on the MAP part of the GamePad or the pause screens that might be counting those statistics, plus the number of treasures I've recovered.
The pictures are still taking a while, but I think I might reach the halfway point soon? I took a picture of a boss as #52 in terms of unique photos. Some characters are part of a double statue, so I had to delete the individual pictures of them. Then, some pictures give you multiple individual statues, if that makes sense! I guess they're figuring (just noticed that "pun"), after Outset Island (before you've even heard of the Pictobox), you might not see certain characters for the rest of the game, or at least not outside of a cutscene where you could snap a picture.
I've counted the number of pedestals and may have come up with 133? I know there's a bonus once you get all of them (Number 134?). It's hard to believe that some rooms are still mostly empty, or that there could be 80 more characters or enemy types. I think I've concentrated on Outset and Dragon Roost to the point where I could tell you the few statues that are missing. When I get to number 60 (still deciding on a nominee), I'll definitely focus on minor dungeon enemies that I keep skipping. In the 70 range, I wanted to take pictures of the Great Deku Tree and each Korok. I think the rest are mostly going to be enemies? There are nine pedestals left for Windfall Island, which has more characters than any other location.
The temple I just finished was pretty neat, but I almost reached a point where I just wanted to be DONE! I'm not sure why, since now, I'd be back in the overworld without the ONE ITEM I still need to access certain islands with tall structures. For being called the "Earth" temple, I'm not sure how the internal details fit with that theme.
(Spoilers ahead) I guess it reminded me the most of what could be called the Shadow Temple from "Ocarina of Time"? That might not be correct, but I remember it being in the desert. There are a bunch of coffins that keep popping open. Light and mirrors are a major "mechanic" (I get tired of hearing people use that term to describe video games). One puzzle drove me nuts to the point where I looked at pictures in a guide. That was enough to realize, "OK. That item is on a track, and it wants you to drag it to this spot." I think my attempt to solve the puzzle was more complex than what Nintendo wanted you to do. I kept using my assistant to shine light off of the mirror, and then me being in another room altogether, but we actually needed both of us to get the correct angle for making a barrier disappear. That meant moving the mirror was a necessary step. Once you know that, one of the final rooms is pretty much ALL about pulling the mirrors around. To get a bonus map, I had to fight three familiar enemies. To get the boss key, it was almost like another mini-boss encounter. I'm not sure if that felt like an extra challenge, or just like, let me have the key already!
My GamePad battery lost power again, so I'm not sure what I'll do if I play an evening session. It's kind of annoying to hunt for treasure without seeing the GamePad and the TV together (not switching back and forth). I'm thinking the Swift Sail would be a nice item now, because I still have lots of pictures to deliver to the Forest Haven (although you should be able to warp there). After I get to around 80 pictures, I think I might be ready for the last temple and my quest to basically conquer each square on the map in order. There's also disabling the reef structures (kind of the conquer each square strategy?). Most of those are near the middle of the map.
In other news, is anybody following E3? I think I saw most of EA's conference. I could probably put some thoughts in another post.
