: games in certain orders and such. I have
: times where if I'm doing whatever I may want
: to do it certain ways but never buying
: games. Basically if I like/want a game and
: can afford it, I buy it. :-P
I think I only paid attention to it recently. When I bought my first Wii U game, I didn't have a pattern in mind. Good thing I did get that copy of Madden, though. I believe it's the only version EA released on Wii U, and the cover boy went into early retirement (Calvin "Megatron" Johnson).
I guess, with the way things don't stay on the shelf forever anymore (was it ever like that?), I want to focus on the games while I can't really buy a console without using credit. I'd rather work and earn the console part. That still doesn't seem to explain a certain order, though. You'd just figure that the older games would be a higher priority (since they might go out of stock sooner).
At first, I think I was doing that. Then I kind of noticed the order when I was buying amiibo. I got that timed to where Mario (from the Super Mario series) was 12, and then Sonic was 13 (unlucky number, but he's not really a Nintendo character, and I struggle to clear levels in his games).
Now, it's kind of like, if I didn't do that, I think "Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze" might be either Nintendo Selects, or a game that's rarely stocked by stores. The "Donkey Kong Country Returns" game from Wii is definitely a Nintendo Selects. They also messed up the artwork of "Super Mario Galaxy 2" with that Nintendo Selects treatment. I regretted not buying the first one in the store. Then I found an unopened original artwork copy on Amazon. I'm not sure whether I'd try that for "Galaxy 2," or if it might possibly be a digital download on the eShop (but with which artwork?).
: But I know on the recent lottery balls that
: I got (basically think plastic Easter eggs
: but round) and use for deciding my Let's
: Play videos, they have 6 colors and I paired
: them up with a system that was NOT putting
: the like colors together. It's kind of too
: easy to supposedly "target" a
: certain color (not that I would or that it
: matters for Let's Play videos but some might
: say that) so each color could be paired with
: two others. For example, a blue top might
: have a green bottom but a blue bottom might
: have a red top. And since you can't tell
: which half is which without taking it apart
: or looking REAL close... more variables.
: Plus it just looks more colorful reaching in
: to grab one. :-)
I think I get it, but not how the balls are used, or if the top or bottom decides the choice.
: I did hear about the Disney Infinity game
: ending but never got into it as it seemed
: like a big undertaking to buy stuff just to
: play it.
Did you hear from the Nintendo Newscast? I know there's one guy Jason who was maintaining an Infinity blog (www.infinityinquirer.com). That's where I read the story first. Jason also contributes to a site Nintendo Inquirer. That developed out of Amiibo News and a podcast called the Amiibo Newscast. Then, the two hosts (Jason and Lauren) saw how amiibo was kind of slowing down, and they want to talk about general Nintendo news (which also looks kind of slow at the moment). I think that Jason (a different one from the Infinity blog) is kind of impatient (Japan gets this the day before us?). Anyway, I believe the second Jason was a guest on episode 5, talking about Infinity, but I didn't finish episode 4 yet.
: Sure I've invested in quite a few
: Amiibo but there are times when Nintendo
: releases games to use them on so they're not
: just for one game. I know Disney Infinity
: did catch on, generally speaking, so good
: for them making something that those who
: played it liked.
You know what I thought about? A bunch of things, really. To kind of "answer" about needing to buy a bunch of stuff, that's how they hook you! I wanted to earn more spins for the lottery game that awards new buildings, vehicles, and other items. It still felt fun, though, since each character is different (unless you buy the ones from "Toy Story"). I ended up buying the sisters from "Frozen" before seeing the movie! How does that make sense? I did watch the movie version, and it's pretty suspenseful.
With the game in general, I just don't know how they would have kept it going. One thing I started to wonder was how many people like Disney, and Marvel, and "Star Wars"? I think "Star Wars" ranks the highest for me, but they've started to ruin the series in part 7. You can tell that they've been watching too many other fantasy movies, and it's not George Lucas imagining new ideas. Marvel would be near the bottom, although I may have eight of those characters by the time I finish collecting. Three are bundled together in the starter pack. Spider-Man wasn't an individual figure until recently, and that wasn't the red suit version. If you wanted to play in his play set, you had to buy the bundle with "Nova" included (can't think of who he is in the comics). Then, with the Disney characters, there's such a wide range, but I do like a majority of them. I bought Wreck-It-Ralph without seeing his movie, either!
So, you had all of those factors. I think it was starting to become hard to expand. They were trying things like "Alice in Wonderland" that might come out this week. Nemo and Dory are kind of cool in their first movie. I can't really imagine them in a play set.

Maybe I can answer my original question? One of the reasons why discs appeal to me on the Wii U especially, would be the small amount of internal memory (only 32 gigabytes for the "deluxe" version?). I kind of wish they had included a hard drive. Then I think, that seems like sort of a piracy risk (although, people can still copy games to hard drives - I just assume everything is encrypted when it transfers). Then, how big would it be? How much would it increase the price? What if you weren't planning to download many games? Just things like that. I guess the way they did it was kind of a good compromise, because you can spend as much as you think is necessary on an external drive, pick the capacity, and have some other choices not already made for you.
The odd thing about the 32 gigabytes, though, is how that compares to the size of a game. I've noticed the Wii U discs all seem to be Blu-rays (or Nintendo's version of that format). Thinking back to DVD, I believe the maximum capacity was 4.7 GB per layer. Would that mean 9.4 GB for a two layer disc? Maybe not, if those discs needed something special embedded to let a laser scan both layers. You can probably assume, though, that a Wii U disc would be in the range of 10 gigabytes or larger. A Blu-ray can store 25 gigabytes per layer if I'm remembering correctly. Would that mean you can only store about three digital games before you'd run out of space? That seems to be why PlayStation 4 comes with a 500 GB hard drive (double what's on my PC). You can also buy movies and maybe TV shows from their online store.
Based on what I read, the Nintendo eShop gives the first Disney Infinity game away for free (since I have everything but the actual disc). The catch is, it's about 10 gigabytes in size. That could take a bunch of hours on my DSL connection. We only download about 20 megabytes per minute (just over a gigabyte per hour). Then, it might just be on the PlayStation version, but I read that you need over 300 megabytes to save all of your progress.
Pretty much, that might take up a good chunk of whatever is left after the operating system, plus the preloaded "Mario Kart 8" (if they're still selling that bundle when I find a job). Then what about 2.0 or 3.0? For 2.0, I'm planning to buy the starter pack, which would come with the physical disc. For 3.0, I was planning to buy the PlayStation 4 version. No matter what, at least one of the games seems like it would be a digital download on both consoles.
What I can probably do is to "transfer" the "Mario Kart 8" off of the system to clear some more space for "Infinity" games. You know what else is weird? How do they know you bought a digital copy of a game if it comes preinstalled? I'm just thinking that it's usually linked to your Nintendo Network ID (possibly not, because people say they had to buy something twice when they traded in their console), but, logically, you haven't set up a Nintendo Network ID yet, have you? I mean, you're buying the system in a retail box and haven't configured any settings.
