Follow me on this... First off these will be based on a 16-person/team bracket. I intend to start brackets each time with the top 16 from EVERYONE including champions. If there aren't 16 characters or, more likely, teams then like a normal tournament the top seeds that end up without an opponent get a first round bye. If someone in the tournament drops out of the Rankings, they drop from the tournament as well.
Now here's the trick on how this works. You may be wondering how they face each other and advance in the tournament. Well, it'll be based on when both competitors/teams have a Rankings match which, in the case of the tournament, will include an Unranked match. When this happens the key will be if one wins and one loses. That's how they'll win the match within the tournament. So if, using the current Singles Rankings as an example, #7 Venom is against #10 Road Dogg and both win their matches, their tournament match will stay where it is for the next show. Same way if both lose. But if one wins and the other loses, then the winner will move on. It's kind of like a "Beat The Clock" challenge without a clock where you have different opponents but need to be more successful.
Of course this means the tournaments will end up being pretty staggered but, in the long run, should be easier for me to track, too. I am thinking that the final tournament match should be a head-to-head match that takes place as part of a show so you can determine the match type and all. And, obviously, with champions being involved whomever holds the World Title at the time could simply go unchallenged for winning the tournament or another champ could be a double champion until losing a title.
The only thing I haven't completely figured out is how to handle teams in the brackets when we do the Lethal Lottery. We can either figure that out when the time comes or, if you have ideas, let me know. What I could do is average out the seed rankings of the new team from their original entry and sort of reorganize where they are in the tourney based on that. So if someone who was a #10 seed teamed up with someone who was a #12 seed their average would be 11. Now that wouldn't put them in the #11 slot necessarily because if a #12 and a #11 teamed that would be 11.5 or a lower spot. Not sure if that made sense in my explanation but I can see it in my mind. :-P
Anyway, the current Lucky 7 Series will continue for each show until they are completed. As each one completes when they restart they'll be in the new tournament format. I'll keep the pairings updated on the main page like the Lucky 7 Series rankings so you can always know what the match-ups are. And if you want things in bracket form, you may have to grab a piece of paper but, again, I'll use traditional 16-person/team brackets each time so that round 1 has 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc and of course 1 & 2 wouldn't be able to face each other until the final if they both make it and so on. :-)
Oh, one other thing I thought about to help possibly advance tournament matches. Let's say 2 people are in the same tournament match and are in the same Rankings match but it's a 3-way and neither straight up wins the match. In that case whoever gave up the decision (WWE 2K16) or finished last (Smash Bros.) will lose the tournament match. This will ONLY be the case when in the same match. When they are in different matches, it's all about wither winning or losing without the extra variables.
I can't believe it took me so long to come up with this idea. I just hope you like the idea as much as I'm excited to get it into play. And, again, this could be something that, if you want certain characters/teams to advance you can try and submit match types that could favor/hinder someone in their Rankings match. I guess it's up to you how detailed you get in keeping track. :-)
