Can guidance really improve long-term sales performance?

Is outside guidance actually useful for teams that already have experience and decent results, or is it something that only makes sense when performance drops or serious problems appear? Many leaders hesitate to bring in external support because they assume their team should already “know better” or figure things out internally.

The reality is that even strong teams develop habits over time. Some of them are helpful, others simply go unquestioned because “this is how we’ve always done it.” When no one challenges those routines, small inefficiencies slowly grow into structural problems. They don’t always show up as obvious failures, but they limit growth, create friction inside the team, and make results harder to predict in the long run.

For a long time, I believed guidance was only necessary during major problems, when performance clearly dropped. Over time, I realized that even experienced teams develop small habits that quietly hold them back. Through sales leadership coaching, I learned to focus on creating sustainable routines and improving communication. This made decisions clearer, aligned the team, and brought more predictable results, making daily work feel calmer and more structured.
