Starting my first PC build soon. Friend told me ATX 3 power supplies are important now but I have no idea what that even means. Should I care about this?

Yeah it matters if you're buying new parts. Modern graphics cards use different power cables. Just get a current PSU and you won't have compatibility problems later on

Listen your friend is right about this. Graphics cards changed how they get power recently and you need a PSU that matches. I read up on https://seasonic.com/atx3-prime-tx/ when planning my build and it cleared up the confusion. Basically newer cards pull power differently and old PSUs weren't designed for that. You can use adapters but why bother when you're building from scratch. Just buy current hardware that works together properly. Makes life easier and your system more stable. Don't overthink it just get the right standard from the start
