Is it important that a language tutor is a native speaker?

I keep hearing people stressing that their teacher is not just a tutor but an actual native speaker, like it’s something super cool. Since when did regular teachers stop being considered good specialists?

I think having a tutor who’s also a native speaker is awesome, but there’s nothing wrong if your tutor speaks the same native language as you. I’ve literally never had lessons with a native speaker myself.
