What’s the best way to find someone who really understands websites?

I’ve seen so many agencies promising amazing results, but when you dig deeper, half of them look like they just use templates. My project isn’t huge, but I need a proper website that’s tailored, not something generic. Choosing feels like a gamble.

It’s one thing to get a “pretty” design, but another to have a site that actually works well and grows with your needs. Recommendations really matter here.
