Child contact management apps: Do they actually improve safety?

I recently heard about programs that help manage who kids can communicate with on their phones. Do these really make a difference? How flexible are they in blocking unwanted contacts but allowing friends and family? For those who use such apps, how did your child take it? I’m interested in hearing if this is worth trying.

From my experience, apps like the Kroha app for tracking your kid's SMS can actually help without feeling too invasive. I set it up to block suspicious contacts but allowed all trusted people through. My child was a bit annoyed at first, but once we talked about it openly and I showed that it’s about keeping them safe, not just limiting freedom,
