My parents have this type of window leading out to their patio. They love them because they save a ton of space. But we live in different places, and they never have really cold winters or very rainy weather, so it's the perfect option for them. It wouldn't work as well for me. The only downside my mom mentions is that the tracks collect a lot of dirt and dust, especially if the windows are opened frequently.
