Putting out a feeler to see if anyone is interested in a overnight trip to go do the White river in mid-upper Vt. The run is from Stockbridge to Bethel (one day), the over night part is getting there the day (evening) before and moteling it in White River Junction so the shuttle happens early. Too long of a day to try and do it, (drive up and back), in one day for me. This is a trip I did with Chuck H. about 5-6 years ago. It's a really super nice trip. I know Chuck would vouch for that, hope he can make it again. The floods they had 2 years ago changed the dynamic's (riverbed) of this river in a major way. Rapids have appeared where there were none before. The rounded stones of the river bed have been severely shifted and rearranged as has the main channel. My buddy Doug did it last year and found it to be a blast and he's not really a WW paddler. My plan is to leave on a saturday afternoon, get up to WRJ and check in to the Super 8 near the V.A. hospital. Get a nice dinner and knock back a few beer's on the Motel patio outside my door. Next morning run shuttle, run river, drive home. The dates available for this trip are either (both sunday's) May 5 or May 12, leaving R.I. the saturday afternoon the day before. May 5 may be the optimum date for me. My buddy Doug and Marshall M. are taking a N.H. AMC trip down on saturday May 4. I was originally going to join them but I can't take the friday out the day before to get up there. So here I am looking to put together a trip on the 5th. 2 people, 2 cars,.. this trip is on. I'll welcome a shotgun rider. Interested ?
Re: Planning a beautiful White river, Vt. trip-May ?
Bill Luther and I met up with another boater at the put-in on sunday and we paddled the section above, Rochester to Stockbridge. About 12 miles. The level was low but doable. We had a great time. Wish others could have joined us.
