Hello! I am a researcher at the University of Iowa. I am working on a book of English charters from our Special collections department. I believe the book to be written by (literally, it's a manuscript) by Raphe Bagnall, who signed his name in the book a number of times. My theory is that he was being trained as a law clerck and that this manuscript is his notebook for copy-work. From what I have found, Raphe Bagnall may have been born in 1616 in Newcastle-Under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England and may have died in 1651 in the same town. I would love to talk with anyone who is researching Bagnall's of Staffordshire in the 1600's and I would love to share images of Raphe's signatures and of the book itself if anyone is interested!
