As this most notable anniversary of the OPJFC arrives, it’s brought me to ponder all that’s happened over the course of the same 10 years in my own life, in the computer industry, and in the world. Obviously I continue to have a lot of time on my hands, but will summarize for those already dreary of reading this post that it has been quite an amazing journey for us all.
It must be acknowledged that the true origins of the OPJFC are found deep within the Highlander franchise, which presented PaulJ to us, and it is through his own decision the OPJFC was, and has been, allowed to develop into the free spirit it is today.
Once the OPJFC was officially online, it came to be a major meeting place for PaulJ fans from every genre, including those who had been admirers of his work as far back as his Canadian lottery ads, through Santa Barbara, Parker Lewis, Lonesome Dove, and the infamous Coke commercial. From that potpourri of people grew admiration for the work of our favorite working actor, who, in return, oft times found strength and encouragement (and a certain sense of embarrassment) from the OPJFC website.
Over the past 10 years, it has been an amazing story of people from all over the world, from all walks of life, interacting with each other in the online through the joys, the sadness, the exciting, and the mundane experiences all humans share. It certainly has not been without its strife, but through all its hardships, it has remained for 10 years a shining example of tolerance, sympathy, generousity, and understanding, shared by an enormously diverse group of people on an international scale. I personally find that to be an incredible thing, and I can never express in words how glad I am, and how thankful, that I was allowed to be a part of it.
So it continues for this small oasis in cyberspace, with the torch now successfully handed to a new generation of fans. May the OPJFC continue offering the same positive interaction for all concerned for another 10 years.
peace
