Kate & I seem to have a pension (sp?) for similar name gatherings. She & I were together once with her mom and my friend - both Liz!
When I was growing up, Katie was not a popular name at all (although there was another Katie in my class, but she was actually a Kathleen - my birth name is Katie). I think it got more popular about 10 yrs after I was born. Though oddly enough, 2 of my favorite actresses are nicknamed Katie! (Holmes & Heigl) Mine was a family name, named after my great grama was Caty (Catherine). The name was passed down as a middle name to my grama, my aunt and my cousin. My mom debated naming me Star (which might or might not have been cool), but decided to go with Katie, deducing that Katie Suzanne sounded very southern... little did she known I'd actually move to the south! LOL!! (Though Star would have worked to, given the film industry )
