The southern New England weather has been a yo-yo this winter. We had early snow in December, and haven't had much accumulation since. I do remember an April 1st Blizzard in 1997. It did shut down Boston,Mass for a day. So anything is possible. In December (after the snow we got 6-8"), I had gotten a snow thrower and I haven't had to use it yet. How's that for climate change??
About the wind and garbage cans. Talk about a sore subject with me. It looks like a war zone around here after the garbage trucks come around. Barrels and Lids all strewn about. Always seems to be windiest on garbage pick up day, too. Whats up with that??!! - One such bad Tuesday - as I've come to call them. I decided to take the lid off the barrel because they do a great frisbee impression given enough windspeed. Then I left for work praying my barrel will still be there when I get home from work much later that day. Sure enough, I get home to no barrel. No kind neighbor to return it to my porch or vicinity of my house. I do have a nice lid...But a couple weeks later after I bought a new barrel and painted my house number on it. I see a neighbor has a similar barrel with no lid. I had mentioned it to a friend casually. Wouldn't you know it? Some good samaratan rang my bell and left the empty barrel on my porch. There's hope yet. Now it has a number painted on it and I have twin barrels.
About the sad barrel you saw Trish, depending on the plastic, I've seen them become brittle in the cold and after many seasons of climate change. but all it takes is a car or a swift wind or both to shatter them like glass. And if your garbage men are anything like ours, if it isn't in the barrel, it isn't getting picked up - so the lovely wind helps scatter all that lovely trash. Makes a nice sight to come home to- Like I said, after garbage truck passes. looks like a war zone. LOL
That's my 2 cents.
