A "TRUE" Memorial Tournament

If your team is looking to honor the Service Men and Women of this great country on Memorial Day, there is a true way to do so. The Birchfield Memorial tournament will be held in Westville, Indiana May 28-29. Josh Birchfield (a native of Westville), paid the ultimate price February 19, 2010 for his country while serving in Afghanistan and the Birchfield Committee was formed to insure the memory of Josh and other service men and women would not be forgotten. The Committee is a 501c3 non-profit organization and they put 100% of the profits from many events they run, and these funds, which total over $43,000.00 have been used to purchase playground equipment and a new $35,000.00 basketball court. If you are considering another tournament that claims to benefit the Service Men and Women of the USA, PLEASE ask the host of those events where the profits are going.
The Birchfield Memorial tournament is more than softball. In the past, there has been a US Congressman, US Senator, State Senator, LaPorte County Sheriff, and endless numbers of veterans present to pay tribute on Memorial Day.
The 2016 event will be open to both men and women’s teams. There will be a limit of 16 teams admitted. Team rosters are limited to Silver and Bronze players; however, a team is permitted no more than two (2) Gold players on the roster. The event is a NSA sanctioned tourney and paper rosters will be used. The entry fee is $250.00 and teams should contact Jim Kimmel to enter. Teams get so much for their money this weekend as the committee cooks two hogs, hot dogs, soft drinks, chips, and all for a donation. Teams are encouraged to bring family members and make a weekend of this.
