puppy vaccines?

I was wanting to get breeders' input on vaccinating their litters (before the puppies go to their new homes)... do you bring them to your vet to have vaccines done there or do you do it yourselves?
If I breed Maybull, I will bring the puppies to my vet to have them all health checked prior to going to their homes, but I have considered doing the initial vaccinations/dewormers myself...

We do the same as Dieu, we vaccin at 6/9/12 weeks , deworm at 2/4/6/8/12 weeks, de chips is done by weeks. We always go to the vet also because of the chip and the health certificate. The chip must be put in by a vet, so when we are there the get also their vaccin and a pasport.

My own dogs I do myself at home and deworm them 4 times a year.

About when to breed a female, we always do progesteron, it cost her €50 each time,we do a test so it is a lot of money but I want to be sure, especially when I have to drive a long while to the male.But all my females are different....

I do my own vacciantions, MUCH cheaper. I vaccinate at age 6/9/12 weeks of age and worm at 2/3/4/6/9/12 weeks of age. I get my pups a vet check before going to new homes at age 6 weeks.

As far as Maybull... Do you know about what day into her cycles you notice her flagging?

unfortunately she was only around a male during her first heat cycle.. during the cycles after that, she was just around females.
At least so far she has had very regular & normal heat cycles..
I've read about pH testing as a way to tell, no clue how accurate that actually is.
But I think the general consensus so far seems to be somewhere after 10 days from the start of the blood.. Never having bred a dog before, I need all the advice I can get!

Hi,

just want to share the way we do it:
our vet will come over first time at 6 weeks old and they get their first shot, with 8 weeks they get the second shot, microchip and health certificate as well as an chiropractical evaluation and litter approvement by a certified vet. The pups leave here with 10 weeks of age and the deworming is done by us every 14 days with Flubenol.

For pups, I always have the vet give the vaccinations and wormer even though it is much cheaper to do yourself. There is proof for the puppy homes that the vaccine / wormers have been done. The vet will also examine the pup to be sure all is well. If for whatever reason the pup would become ill, you have proof that you have taken due diligence.
I self vaccinated my own adult dogs only after a titer has proven the need. We do a titer before a breeding as well.

I know each dog is different, but how do you know when your female is actually ready to be bred to a male (especially without having a male around)?

During Maybull's first heat cycle she showed the tail flagging, "flirting", allowing mounting, etc with my ex's neutered male when we thought she was in her receptive period, but now I only have female dogs..

The progesterone tests at the vet's cost a lot of money and I am not sure exactly how else to tell when she's receptive. I've read a bunch of books/articles on it but they all say different things...

I started on the 10th day and bred every other day till the female wouldn't accept it.

Semen can live for days so it is better to breed early than late.

You are right every dog is an individual

We breed dogs since 1996 and I always did it the same way without a progesteron test and so on.
I breed them the 12th and 13th day after I saw the first blood spot. We had always puppies i.e. 7,9,9,6,10 and 8
Thats my way ... I know that someone else will tell you different things

We will deworm the pups and mum at 2/4/6/8 weeks. Vaccination at 6/9/12 weeks. Chip at 6 weeks. The pups will leave to their new homes when they are 8 weeks old, so the new owners will have to deworm and do 2 vaccinations by theirselves.

When will Maybull have her first litter? How exciting! Good luck!

Thanks! Do you do the vaccines yourself?

I am having her hips x-rayed this week, then sending it to the LBA to be looked at. If they are approved, I am hoping to breed her on her next heat cycle (July/August)
