I very recently located to NYC (specifically living in Brooklyn) for my job. The dogs obviously joined me in this new adventure. I thought NYC life would be tough for big dogs, but Brooklyn may be the most dog friendly place I have encountered thus far. I am one block from Prospect Park, which suprisingly has a mile long stretch of open park that holds off-leash dog hours each day before 9 AM and after 9 PM. Every dog owner has been over-the-top responsible. Dogs vary, but what shocked me was the large breed selection I have met during off lease hours at the park. I have run into at least 3-4 Cane Corsos, numerous Ridgebacks, and a 230 lb mastiff (laying down, of course). Of course there are only 2 true Leavitt Old English Bulldogs in town.
Top it off, I have found several bars where dogs are welcome to join their owners; and there are 3-4 specialty pet supply stores (some organic)and veterinarians within walking distance of my apartment. It has been an interesting experience so far. Clearly Brooklyn has gone to the dogs.
